Sadie Buschman Room

Located in the historic 1812 Main House, the Sadie Bushman Room is a spacious, airy upstairs retreat that blends Victorian elegance with modern comforts. The room features a luxurious king-size bed, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a Roku TV. While the private bathroom is not located within the guest room, it is reserved exclusively for the Sadie Bushman Room and is conveniently located just across the hall. The bathroom features a walk-in shower and offers privacy and comfort for your stay.

This room pays tribute to Sadie Bushman, affectionately remembered as "The Little Nurse of Gettysburg." Just nine years old during the Battle of Gettysburg, Sadie was separated from her family as they fled the fighting. While attempting to reach her grandparents' farm, she narrowly escaped death when an exploding artillery shell left her with a concussion. She was rescued by Union surgeon Dr. William Lyford, who brought her to a Union field hospital. There, despite her young age, Sadie eagerly assisted Dr. Lyford in caring for wounded soldiers for nearly two weeks until her father found her and took her home.

The experience forever shaped her life. Drawn by a deep compassion for the wounded, Sadie repeatedly slipped away from home to volunteer in the field hospitals, returning each evening to face her father's disapproval. Yet her determination to care for others never wavered, earning her the enduring nickname "The Little Nurse of Gettysburg."

Inspired by Sadie's gentle spirit and remarkable courage, the room embraces the graceful beauty of the Rococo Revival style. Elegant asymmetrical curves richly patterned floral wallpaper, luxurious fabrics, and finely crafted walnut and mahogany furnishings create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Soft, feminine details and whimsical Victorian accents reflect the resilience and compassion of a young girl whose extraordinary acts of kindness became a lasting part of Gettysburg's history.
